Scholarship Program for High School Seniors

  ANNOUNCING OUR 2023 SCHOLARSHIP ESSAY WINNERS

- $1,000 SCHOLARSHIPS AWARDED -

Since 1995 the Vietnam Veterans of America South Bay Chapter 53 has been awarding scholarships to graduating seniors from local South Bay high schools*. In addition to encouraging and supporting continued education, the Chapter is trying to heighten awareness of the Vietnam War, the men and women who served there, and the huge impact it has made on the United States, then and now. VIETNAM VETERANS OF AMERICA SOUTH BAY CHAPTER 53 proudly presents our ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIP ESSAY PROGRAM WINNERS FOR GRADUATING HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS 

Requirements for Applicants 

Applicant must interview and report on a Vietnam Era Veteran (defined as a Veteran who served in the U.S. Armed Forces on active duty, other than for training purposes, in the Republic of Vietnam between November 1, 1955 and May 7, 1975, or in any duty location between August 5, 1964 and May 7, 1975. NOTE: Verification of the Veteran's military service may be required.) 

Applicant must submit an essay of at least 1,000 but not more than 1,500 words with a brief biography of the Veteran including the Veteran’s Branch of Service, Military Unit, dates of active military service, AND what you feel are the most important things you learned from your interview of the Veteran and why. Applicant must include, separate from the essay, a short biography highlighting school and community involvement, scholastic achievements, and future goals.
