SUPPORTING JROTC, CAP AND SEA CADETS

PURPOSE:

  

1. To honor and recognize outstanding high school students enrolled in Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC), Civil Air Patrol (CAP), and Sea Cadet Corps programs for their leadership, community service, academic achievements, and overall successes. 

2. To strengthen the legacy of Vietnam Veterans of America by connecting the honorable service of Vietnam veterans with the dedication of today's youth. 

AWARD CRITERIA

  

1. Individuals consistently demonstrate the core values of the Vietnam Veterans of America: Advocacy, Meaningful Achievement, Integrity, Compassion, and Camaraderie. 

2. Individuals must have completed at least their second year in a JROTC, CAP, or Sea Cadets program by the end of the current school year. 

3. Individuals are in the top 25% of their class academically and demonstrate excellence in their JROTC, CAP, or Sea Cadets achievements. 

GENERAL RULES & GUIDELINES:

  

1. The number of medals awarded each year is determined by the JROTC, CAP, or Sea Cadets unit commanders, and, if they choose, VVA Chapter 53. 

2. There is no limit to the number of medals that may be awarded annually. 

3. Medal & ribbon sets can be requested at any time throughout the year. To ensure timely delivery, please submit requests at least two weeks before your scheduled ceremony. 

4. Certificates: We provide certificates upon request. Please include the individuals’ names when requesting certificates. 

ADDITIONAL AWARD CRITERIA FOR TOP CADET COMPETITION:

1. The faculty and advisors of the JROTC, CAP, or Sea Cadet unit are responsible for selecting their Unit Top Cadet.

2. A narrative of the Cadet’s accomplishments and the rationale for their selection, must be provided by the school (250-500 words).

3. A personal essay of no less than five hundred words, written by the Top Cadet nominee, on the subject: "The Importance of Accounting for our POW/MIAs."

DEADLINE: All nominations must be submitted to the VVA Chapter 53 Awards Committee no later than March 1st of the current school year.

AWARDS: Vietnam Veterans of America will award the three TOP CADETS nationally 1st Place: $2,500 2nd Place: $1,500 3rd Place: $1,000
